MBA-Tryout Leadership

DTU's Executive MBA, Master in Management of Technology, is more than an education, it's a journey. Choosing to sign up and spend 21 months at school, while still working, is a big decision. To help you make this decision are offering a unique opportunity to join an Executive MBA class for a day. We call this opportunity an MBA-Tryout.

We have scheduled 2 MBA-tryouts during Spring 2018. The 2 events have a total cost of DKK 3.000, which will be deducted from your tuition fee should you choose to sign up for this year's Executive MBA program starting in August.

These days give you the opportunity to get a feel for the school, check out the auditorium, and meet our professors and staff while experiencing top-level teaching and starting new friendships.

5 April 2018 from 8.30 – 16.30:
"Leadership - At Its Best" with Brent Smith, Professor, Senior Associate Dean, Rice University*

Brent SmithLeadership transitions are precarious. Whether one is taking their first step into a leadership role or assuming a new leadership role of expanded responsibility or scope, the task is difficult and, the research suggests, fraught with the possibility of failure. During the day, we will explore the most common misconceptions about leadership and leader development, consider the unique difficulties of transitioning into a managing director role, investigate best practices in leading cross functional teams, and, finally, explore leadership in times of change. The 4 sessions during the MBA-Tryout day include:

  • Common Misconceptions about Leadership (or Why the 1000 Books on Leadership are All Misleading)
  • Defining Leadership: Making a Transition into Managing Director Role (Case Study: Erik Peterson at Biometra (A) - will be sent in advance)
  • Leading High Performing Teams (C-suite Exercise)
  • Leading in Times of Change

8 May 2018 from 8.30 – 16.30:
"Handling the Innovation Process" by Oliver Alexy, Professor of Strategic Entrepreneurship, TU München*

Oliver AlexyOliver Alexy's Innovation course is a core feature of DTU's Executive MBA. In Oliver's session you will learn about the many aspects involved in handling the innovation process including innovation in services, technology management, open innovation, and profiting from innovation. You will also learn about how to integrate innovation into strategy. This MBA-tryout will focus on systematically uncovering why innovation is continuously needed in any organization that wants to maintain, let alone improve, its competitive position. We will discuss key features of how to foster an innovative organization, such as individual motivation and organizational design for innovation. Then we will explore how, when, and why novel approaches to innovation, such as Zappo's holacracy, may lead organizations to perform better and what this can mean for the context in which you are currently working.
