Module Description
Digital technologies are transforming every industry and constantly generate new opportunities for businesses to create value for their customers. However, value creation for customers does not equate to value creation for the business. Who is going to pay for what benefit, and how, may be a straightforward question – yet the answer can be anything but.

Explaining how value creation translates into value capture is the essence of a business model. Whether in the old economy or in the digital age, the cornerstones of a successful business model are always the same – and this module will offer a thorough introduction to them. You will explore some of the most recent business business models as well as intriguing classic examples. The final part of the module will switch to a workshop format as you will have the opportunity to sketch out a new, innovative business model for your organisation, supported by the other participants and the module faculty.

Here are some of the questions this module will explore:

  • What is the customer value proposition?
  • How to approach value innovation in a systematic way?
  • What are the cornerstones of an effective business model?
  • How do successful business models come under pressure from environmental changes and internal tensions?
  • What are new types of business models for a sharing and co-creating economy?
  • How should your organization’s business model adapt to a digital world?

The module will address the stated questions and provide some insights to inspire you.
