Module Description
Innovation Management has become the prime discriminator between successful and failing firms. With technology and market dynamics ever increasing, firms capable of setting the competitive pace through innovative offerings, which address customer needs better than their competitors, outperform their peers. This requires that innovation becomes a planned and structured process, which systematically creates results. In other words, innovation management is a discipline, which is mastered by successful firms.

Since 2015 a European Standard on Innovation Management can guide firms in creating such a systematic approach – building on a standard makes sense as it provides a sound and accepted basis and secures a comprehensive approach.

However, one size does not fit it all – firms need to adopt an approach, which considers the individual conditions. Creating a successful innovation management system (1) needs a systematic approach and (2) demands understanding the firm specific starting point. This interactive module delivers both – we develop an understanding of what might be needed to improve innovation management and identify how each individual firm can design its approach.

Here are some of the questions this module will explore:

  • Why is an innovation management standard relevant?
  • How can you use the standard to improve your innovative abilities? Can you copy from successful firms?
  • What is the situation in your firm and what is your specific starting point?
  • Are your different from others and is this difference relevant for you?
  • What would be the next 3 main steps to take for your firm to improve your innovative abilities?
  • Can you justify your approach, when challenged by friendly peers?

The module will address the stated questions and provide some insights to inspire you.
